Manuscripts of Queen songs, such as lyrics by ‘We are the Champions’, which should revolve around £200,000 (R$1.2 million) and £300,000 (R$1.8 million), and the manuscript of ‘Killer Queen’, which is expected to cost between £50,000 (R$315,000) and £70,000 (R$441,000). In addition, musical instruments and legendary pieces such as the crown and scepter used by Mercury in Queen performances will also be on sale.
It’s a collection that brings you closer to the personality of the man I knew,” Austin said in the BBC interview. “You see the breadth of his interests. It’s a very smart and sophisticated collection.”
According to Austin, the manuscripts will be the hardest elements to separate. “You are seeing the artist’s process, a work in progress. The scribbles, the edits, the formatting”. Mary also explained that the decision to sell the collection is so she can move on with her life.
I need to get my life in order. The time has come to make the difficult decision to close this very special chapter of my life. I concluded that it would not be appropriate to keep some things. If I’m going to sell, I have to be brave and drop everything.”
Speaking of Freddie, she said she misses him “the fun, the humour, the warmth and the energy”. Mercury and Austin met in the early 70s, they started dating, but the love story ended years later when the singer revealed his homosexuality. However, they remained friends until the end of Freddie’s life.
The musician dedicated one of his greatest hits to her, ‘Love of my life’as well as leaving most of his possessions and fortune to Mary.
