Black Beauties: Who Were Robert De Niro’s Ex-Wives

At 79, Robert De Niro is living his life to the full. Dating a woman younger than him and even becoming a father for the seventh time! The Hollywood actor opens a new chapter of personal happiness, but what remains of his past? Let’s take a look at De Niro’s ex-wives.

Although the actor had many romances and had illegitimate children, he was married only twice. Let’s talk a little more about these women.

Diane Abbott

Dianne is an actress and singer born in New York on January 1, 1945. In the 1970s and 1980s, she was a fairly successful and in-demand actress with a solid resume of roles. She also starred in a cameo role in the movie Taxi Driver, which Robert also starred in (they met on set). However, Abbott slowed down her career in the late 1980s, so today she is best known as Robert’s first wife, having married him in 1976.

During their first year of marriage, they had a son, Rafael De Niro. He remains their only biological child together, although Abbott also has a daughter, Drena, from a previous relationship, whom Robert adopted. Drena also became an actress and starred in several blockbuster films with her father, such as Tail Wags the Dog, City by the Sea, and The Intern. But the son in the acting profession was disappointed and began to sell real estate.

Dianne and Robert’s marital union lasted until 1988.

Grace Hightower

Grace is an actress, entrepreneur and philanthropist born in Mississippi on April 7, 1955. Although she has acted in films, she is more interested in business. For example, she has a Rwandan coffee business.

Robert and Grace married in 1997, almost ten years after they first met in a London nightclub. In March 1998, their first common child, son Elliot, was born. But a year later, De Niro suddenly filed for divorce.

A tense custody battle ensued, but the couple eventually managed to reconcile and even swear their vows to each other again in 2004. In 2011, they had a second child – a daughter named Helena was born to a surrogate mother.

But seven years later, the marriage still fell apart and Robert confirmed that he and Grace were divorcing again. The separation process was not without controversy. So, Grace demanded that the credit card limit linked to the actor’s account remain at the level of 100,000 dollars per month, while De Niro halved the amount – the actor ran into financial difficulties in due to the pandemic.

Robert’s lawyer, Caroline Krauss, said the actor could not retire because of these obligations.

“These people, despite his decent income, always spent more than he earned,” she told the judge in 2020.
