At age 24, funk artist MC Pipokinha garners controversy and causes controversy wherever he goes. Her latest was in the city of Curitiba (PR), where she was banned from singing by state deputy Tito Barrichello (União), who threatened to arrest her if her show at the Shed Bar nightclub was not cancelled.
The parliamentarian also sent a request for cancellation of the presentation to the Nucleus for the Protection of Children and Adolescents Victims of Crime (Nucria), of the Civil Police. On Sunday (14/5), the nightclub announced that the presentation would be canceled due to the latest events involving the singer.
In a few months of success, the young Doroth Helena de Souza Alves, 24, from Santa Catarina, has become famous for her explicit lyrics and choreographies of violent sexual simulations, and while the exaggeration has attracted attention in a first moment, it has now caused a lot of confusion.
The troubles started in January when a woman collapsed after an accident during one of her concerts. When she was called on stage to participate in a sensual choreography, she was kicked by dancer Jonas Kaik, who continued the performance without realizing what had happened. To the press, Kaik said that the fan was promptly rescued. “The production workers immediately went to get her. She got up well, she went down, we left her with the house staff, the emergency,” he said.
Known for her explicit lyrics and steamy performances, she was harassed at a concert in February, when she appeared half-naked, with stickers on her breasts. At that moment, several men in the audience tried to tear off her panties, as well as groping her body. However, Pipokinha downplayed the situation, creating a huge controversy on social media. “Harassment that everyone suffers. This is the most normal thing that exists. Now she will be up to you to defend yourself. […] If you don’t know how to defend yourself, avoid him, don’t wear shorts,” he argued. If you’re scared when he teases you, don’t wear shorts,” he added.
In March, at least seven of his concerts were canceled after making fun of teachers’ salaries. Pipokinha made the comment about her networks about a fan who said she got into a fight with a teacher to defend her. “Poor thing, let her go. My dance costs R $ 70,000, 30 minutes on stage I earn R $ 70,000. Sometimes she doesn’t even earn R $ 5,000 to be a teacher. She has to study a lot,” she said. After the backlash, the artist apologized. “I suffered so many attacks that didn’t reach the media and, in the heat of emotion, I ended up saying it. But I never wanted to offend the teachers”, he vented.
In the same month she was also criticized for being indecent, after a video in which she appears receiving oral sex from a bystander went viral on social networks. The case divided opinion: while some criticized her for the scene, others argued that such things are normal in the kind of forbidden funk the MC symbolises.
This week there was another controversy on social networks, this time with an underage DJ. A video of DJ Márcio singing “Bota na Pipokinha” alongside the singer went viral due to the dialogue that followed the presentation. Pipokinha asked the DJ an indiscreet question: “When will you turn 18 to put it on me?”. He replied: “18? Next year, Pipokinha”. And he added, “Okay, call me.”
