Tati Zaqui posts vent about toxic relationship: ‘I became a hostage’

Singer Tati Zaqui posted a message on Instagram about her toxic relationship with actor Thomaz Costa. The relationship that began in “A Fazenda 14” ended in a criminal complaint against the ex for assault. “I had to reach a dark space, which many call ‘rock bottom’,” she wrote.

In the open letter, she said that she was discredited by many people from the moment she decided to expose the actor.

“They tried to silence me. They tried to belittle me, vilify me, belittle me. They tried to trivialize my pain, mischaracterize me, and invalidate me as a woman. They laughed at my suffering. They made fun of what was sacred to me. They tried to keep away from my friends, work, friendships, family and even my pets, which I love so much,” she began.

Tati confessed that he had lost the will to work after taking up the relationship with Costa, whom he accused again of assault, without naming his name.

“They injured my body, they massacred my heart and I completely lost my peace. They completely deconstructed me in a slow process that seemed to have no end. I no longer felt pleasure being on stage or in the recording studio. I refused the work and commitments. I no longer had the will to live and I just wanted it all to end soon,” he said.

She explained that her decision to stay with Thomaz, despite the toxic relationship, was fueled by the idea that she would one day win the family she’s always dreamed of. “I believed this was possible and insisted on my daily pain, thinking I was unworthy of many things. Happiness was just one of them.”

“I used to blame myself and today this hurts me. Shame screamed at every moment and even then I couldn’t have the strength. I lacked courage, so I, Tati Zaqui, strong and invincible, empowered, mistress of myself, am became a hostage. But I’m not Tati Zaqui. I’m Tatiane! And there’s a big difference between them,” she explained.

“Life on the road is not easy. You sleep in one place and the next day you are already in another. The work is too much, the harassment is maddening. No time to cry because there is an appointment that follows, in ten minutes. Then hers, another. And I followed that path for many years when I just wanted to be accepted and truly loved. I believed in it,” she added.

The singer also denied having fabricated the accusation against her ex-boyfriend to get noticed on social media and said she had already tried several times to leave the relationship before.

“Marketing? No! Every second of that show repeated over and over again on the internet, with the same storyline and new facts, was real. Maybe, by unmasking everything, a change would happen, a miracle. But my help wouldn’t come from heaven, it was just up to me. I needed to say no! And I’ve tried countless times!” she said.

“Psychological abuse is a net. The more you try to get out, the more trapped you become. Emotional abuse completely invalidates you, nullifies you to the point where you become nothing. Physical assault marks your body, but you it breaks your heart,” he explained.

Finally, she says she wants to move forward without having to be ashamed of the abuse she has suffered in recent months.

“Be understanding with my moment of withdrawal, pain and grief. I no longer want to be ashamed of what I’ve been through, but proud of the courage I found to walk out of the storyline that almost destroyed me. Almost. I’m still here!”

In his defense, Thomaz Costa claims he was the victim of an abusive relationship. The actor also expressed himself on social media, in a video posted on Instagram, and declared that he would prove his innocence.

“I was a victim, yes, of an abusive relationship. I will prove to you that men suffer in an abusive relationship too.
