Bamboo joke girl apologizes to Silvio Santos after almost 40 years

The “bamboo girl”, as she came to be known Daiza Lazarte Barros, first came to the public after the obscene joke he made with the presenter when he was a child. Nearly 40 years later and after a search by the broadcaster for the girl, who is now a woman, Daiza participated in the television taping.

At the time, in 1985, Daiza went on a field trip with the school and participated in the old program Domingo No Parque – and after being approached by the presenter, the girl made an obscene joke, which ended up embarrassing Silvio Santos.

When approached by the presenter in the auditorium program, Daiza asked, “What is the difference between the pole, the bamboo and the woman?” Silvio Santos replies immediately: “The bullshit is coming”. The girl replied, “The post gives birth above. The woman gives birth below.” Silvio Santos agrees and asks: “And the bamboo?”. Daiza said: “Stuck it in the ass”.

The joke made all the children laugh and get excited and Silvio Santos laughed too, but the presenter’s discomfort with the speech was evident.

Today at the age of 47, a native of Santa Catarina, with a degree in journalism, he works as a missionary in an evangelical church in São Paulo. “It was never my will to speak. For many years this joke seems funny, but it goes against the principles that I have,” he said during the recording. “I was only eight, I just repeated what I heard,” he explained. “I want to publicly apologize to our Silvio,” he added.

“Now I want to reset it,” she said, rather shyly. Daiza also revealed that she had to file a lawsuit for people to stop using her image of her without permission. “I had to file a lawsuit, secretly, so that no one could use my image without authorization. For this I have protected myself all these years. But the time has come to end it,” she explained.
