The quarrel with Parker has nothing to do with it: that’s why Kim Cattrall never wanted to play Samantha – refused five times!

Kim Cattrall was finally persuaded to star in the sequel to “Sex and the City” – the series “And Just Like That”. Did you know that the actress was initially not enthusiastic about her cult heroine and in fact refused to star even in the original series? Long before the fight with Sarah Jessica Parker! We tell you the real reasons.

Today, fans nearly garnered signatures, clamoring for Kim Cattrall’s return to the show and assuring that Sex and the City is unimaginable without her.

It’s really hard for us to imagine that Samantha could be replaced by someone, let alone that this role could be played by another actress.

Nevertheless, the fact that it was Kim Cattrall who embodied the cult heroine on screen is a miracle! We must thank the perseverance of the showrunners and producers. After all, it turns out that back then, in the 1990s, Kim absolutely didn’t want to star on the show and repeatedly rejected the creators of Sex and the City. In total, she turned down the role five times! Because of which, in the end, she joined the cast already the very last.

The writers of the series had to spend a lot of time persuading, but they finally managed to convince the actress. And not in vain! Samantha, played by Kim Cattrall, has proven to be one of television’s most memorable and charismatic female images.

But why did Kim stubbornly “run away” from the fateful role?

Turns out the whole reason was that Cattrall didn’t believe in herself and believed she was already old for the role, when she was only 41 at the time! The star later admitted that she was “practicing ageism” on herself then.

“At that time, I was almost 41. I felt like I couldn’t be a sex bomb anymore. You have to understand that was 1997. We’ve come a long way since then. Now 40 is the new 25 and 60 is the new 40. But then I thought, “Who would believe that?”— admitted the actress.

Kim was bothered by both the character of the heroine and the plot – it seemed to her that the audience might not like her.

“I wondered if this is how women talk and if this sexual insatiability is a positive model?”

There was another good reason why Kim disliked the role of Samantha. It turns out that initially it was written in the script that the heroine would have children. But Cattrall was of the opinion that “this woman could not have children”. After many quarrels, the producers nevertheless listened to the actress and agreed to her arguments. The storyline with Samantha’s children has been completely removed. After that, Kim agreed to come and read the script.

And literally from the first minute it became clear to everyone, and to her too, that it was a 100% success. Millions of viewers around the world fell in love with Samantha, and the role took Cattrall’s popularity to a whole new level. Of course, there were losses. Thus, the actress admitted that the show “cost her marriage” due to the busy filming schedule.

“I was never home, my husband became lonely, frustrated and aggressive, and it was very difficult, it was very difficult. I ended up spending more time with my Sex and the City family than I did. ‘with my real family.”said the actress.
