Emicida and Arthur do Val discuss the Virada cultural tax

The rapper and the former deputy exchanged accusations based on a post in which Val revealed how much Emicida he received for the show promoted by the Municipality of São Paulo

The rapper and businessman Hemicidal and former state representative Arthur of Val had an argument via Twitter on the night of this Tuesday June 6th. It all started when Val, also known as said the motherpublished a post stating that Emicida received R $ 285,000 to perform at the Virada Cultural in São Paulo, which took place in May.

“Emicida received 285,000 Reais to perform a show at the cultural turning point. It wasn’t just him, she had a fee of over 400 thousand (one thousand). Instead of promoting artists who really need it: actors, singers, set designers, costume designers often forgotten in the suburbs who fight every day for true curtural inclusion (sic). They prefer to give hefty fees to already established and well-paid artists. As a rule, these shows still take place in the central regions of the city where the wealthiest are concentrated. she never was. It’s for the politics of bread and circuses and advocacy of the potato,” she wrote.

Emicida replied to the post stating that culture and cultural projects generate jobs. “There are people working, creating jobs, valuing culture, encouraging local commerce, bringing new artists to the show and getting the culture and hood economy going, this is our case,” he wrote the rapper, who in Virada performed in the neighborhood on the stage set up in the Brasilândia neighborhood, north of São Paulo.

The rapper concluded the message by citing a case in which do Val was involved when he visited war zones in Ukraine in March 2022. “And there are people like you, who try to sex tourism in a war zone… to offer”.

At the time, leaked audio revealed that Do Val had said that Ukrainian women war refugees “are easy going because they are poor.” Upon her return to Brazil, Mamãe Falei apologized for the audio. The former deputy threatened to sue Emicida for having defined the case as “sex tourism”.

Mamãei Falai continued to taunt Emicida with more tweets, but received no further response from the singer. “It’s very easy for Emicida to say he’s ‘taking care of himself’, getting his tax money. Why is it fair to pay 280,000 taxes for an established artist to perform in an affluent neighborhood instead of promoting those who really need it in the suburbs ?”.

“From now on I’ll be an artist, and since I’m very concerned about bringing culture to the people, I’m asking for 285,000 reais in taxes to do my show,” continued the former deputy.

Arthur do Val had his mandate revoked by Alesp (Legislative Assembly of São Paulo) in May 2022, due to his speeches about Ukrainian women. The same sentence made him ineligible for eight years. Earlier, in April of the same year, he had resigned his mandate after the fallout from the case. Mentioned at the time as a candidate for the São Paulo government by Podemos, he withdrew his pre-candidacy for the vacant post.
