Flashed and faded: Basinger, Benigni and others whose careers were buried by the Oscars

In 1998, he received two Oscars at once for La vie est belle: best foreign language film and best actor. His later work did not attract even a tenth of such attention.

In 2002, the actor starred in Roman Polanski’s The Pianist, received a statuette – and actually disappeared from the radar. He landed a role in Woody Allen’s Afternoon in Paris, but that didn’t help him regain his former glory.

She starred in Ghost (1990) and won Best Supporting Actress. And then – silence.

1980 – “Norma Ray”, 1985 – “Places in the heart”. After that, the actress starred in many films, but did not have much success.

She won Best Supporting Actress in The Fisher King (1991). Not all subsequent projects were so famous.

Salieri’s famous role in Amadeus (1984) earned him a well-deserved statuette. And although now we often see him on screen, these are usually episodic roles.

She won an Oscar for The Piano (1993) and her career declined thereafter, despite a considerable track record.

Oscar for LA Confidential in 1997. What happened next can only be dimly remembered. A small role in the sequel to “Fifty Shades of Grey” and a dozen other projects.

For her role in La Grande Aphrodite (1995), she received a well-deserved statuette. And then unjustly forgotten.
