It is generally accepted that the late Queen of Great Britain was not enthusiastic about her grandson’s chosen one, Prince Harry. But the reality seems to be different.
Royal biographer Cathy Nicholl debunks the myths that surrounded Queen Elizabeth II and Meghan Markle’s relationship, as well as Prince Harry and his wife’s scandalous exodus from the royal family.
There is an opinion that the sensational interview with Oprah Winfrey, during which Meghan accused the royal family of racism, greatly paralyzed the queen. But Nicholl claims otherwise. According to her, the Queen was always more concerned about Harry’s well-being than “this TV nonsense”. Elizabeth II wanted Harry to “get back on his feet” in California and “really do something useful”.
Nicholl refutes the opinion that the American was immediately accepted into the family with hostility. The Queen loved Meghan Markle, and she even said to her: “You can continue to be an actress if you want – after all, it’s your job”. The Queen also “did her best to make her future parent feel welcome”. Elizabeth II even insisted that Meghan settle things with her father Thomas Markle and wanted Harry to meet him before the wedding.
Alas, all of Elizabeth II’s attempts to “fit” Megan were in vain. In the royal family, Markle has never taken root – and recently we just determined that such a result was a foregone conclusion.
