Even before the wedding, they kept their mouths shut! How the royal family changed the storyline of the series with Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle has had a lot of complaints about the Royal Family and, it seems, she was particularly annoyed that a lot of things went unmentioned there. Turns out control of what she says was taken from the palace before she even married Harry!

When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially became a couple in 2017, Meghan was still one of the main cast members of Suits. Apparently, Buckingham Palace immediately requested a script to ensure Markle’s character, Rachel Zane, wouldn’t have anything wrong with it. As a result, Queen Elizabeth II found cause to complain, and series creator Aaron Korsh had to alter the dialogues as directed by the royal palace.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Korsh confirmed that the royal family had demanded the right to vote.

“They didn’t veto much, but there were some things that we ended up not being able to do the way we initially wanted. It was a bit boring.”

He especially remembered the following incident. In one of the episodes, Megan had to use British slang, namely the expression poppycock, which means “nonsense”. But this idea was not approved at the palace. For Korsh, it was particularly bitter, as he had heard this slang in his wife’s family and had already promised that he would pay tribute to those close to the series in this way.

Well, the reason was that the second part of the word, i.e. cock, in English also means “penis”. The Royal Family feared craftsmen could remove it from the future Duchess’s speech and use it in obscene videos. As a result, in the script, the word was replaced with more familiar bullshit.

By the way, Korsh never found out how the script got to the Royal Family, since there was no official request – it seems there were spies in Her Majesty’s service!
