Acting couple Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis posted a video on social media apologizing for the letters they wrote in support of Danny Masterson during the rape trial in which the “That 70s Show” actor was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
“We are aware of the pain caused by the character letters we wrote on behalf of Danny Masterson,” Kutcher said in a video shared on Instagram, alongside his wife. Kunis continued: “We support victims. We have done so historically through our work and will continue to do so in the future.”
Context of the letters
Kutcher explained that “a few months ago, Danny’s family contacted us. They asked us to write character letters to represent the person we had known for 25 years.” [na série ‘That 70s Show’]so that the judge could take them fully into account in relation to sentencing.” Kunis added: “The letters were not written to question the legitimacy of the justice system or the validity of the jury’s decision.”
“The letters were not intended to undermine the testimony of the victims,” Kutcher continued, “we would never want to do that. And we are sorry if that were to happen.” Kunis concluded the video statement by saying, “Our hearts go out to every person who has ever been a victim of sexual assault, harassment, or rape.”
