Singer Lexa revealed that she has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, during an interview on the PodPeople podcast, hosted by psychiatrist Ana Beatriz Barbosa. The episode aired Monday night, the 11th.
Lexa said the diagnosis came after undergoing tests at the request of her gynecologist. “I went for some tests that my gynecologist requested. And then I discovered that I have a disease called Hashimoto’s thyroiditis… My memory seems to be a bit short, I forget all the time. I noticed some things, but the ‘Forgetfulness was the problem… it’s the worst of all,’ he reported.
“When I got the diagnosis I was very sad. Nobody wants to have an autoimmune disease,” the singer said.
The doctor and podcast host provided more details about Lexa’s diagnosis. “Hashimoto’s syndrome happens when antibodies attack the thyroid, which is what speeds up the metabolism. You must have felt a little slower, a little more tired, thinking it was fast and then it became slow, with difficulty losing weight…”, he explained.
“And then people criticized me on the internet: ‘He did facial matching’. No, guys. I have an autoimmune disease and, therefore, it alters,” the singer added.
“You have more difficulty losing weight, everything swells more, fluid retention. It’s a battle. It’s an annoying disease, but the chance of it turning into cancer is almost zero,” the doctor explained.
Lexa also said that she lost her train of thought easily and was very forgetful. “I said, ‘Now I have to talk about this, because a lot of women have it and don’t know it. Sometimes they are depressed,” she said.
