Roberto Carlos stumbles, almost falls and complains about the Globo stage; clock

The situation that occurred with the singer highlights the importance of adapting spaces to protect the elderly and people with reduced mobility

The beautiful Special ‘Eu Offere Flores’, by Roberto Carlos, had a small episode cut from the edition broadcast on TV. During a break, the singer almost fell to the floor.

After the song ended, he turned to go to the back of the stage to drink some water. During the journey there was a drop in level which caused him to trip over his foot and lose his balance.

Luckily, the 82-year-old idol instinctively leaned on the piano and thus avoided falling. Irritated, he commented on what happened to his conductor, Eduardo Lages, who even held him by the arm.

The singer was hit by a locomotive when he was 6 years old in his hometown, Cachoeiro do Itapemirim, in Espírito Santo. He walked with the help of crutches until the age of 14, when he finally received a prosthesis that gave him more autonomy in his movements.

The unexpected event of this year’s Special was not the first to affect the “King”. In May 2014, at the opening of a show in Sao Paulo, he was also the victim of a demotion on stage.

These episodes with such a famous person shed light on a social problem: the risks that public and private spaces pose for the elderly and people with reduced mobility, two profiles most vulnerable to potentially dangerous falls.

For example, the leveling of sidewalks, access ramps and handrails is missing. Signage and lighting are also insufficient in most cases. Doctors warn that falls can cause injuries, fractures, serious trauma and even death.

Currently, soap opera writer Walcyr Carrasco, 72, is recovering from a broken femur caused by a fall he suffered while getting out of bed. He spent three months in a wheelchair. He now uses a cane. The pain and treatment forced him to slow down his work by writing ‘Land and Passion’.
