MSC Cruises has confirmed that the man fell overboard during a voyage on the ‘MSC Preziosa’ in the early hours of this Saturday 30, intentionally jumped from the ship. A witness heard by Earth specifies that the fall occurred following an argument between a couple.

“A thorough search was carried out on board and it was confirmed that the guest intentionally threw himself into the sea,” reads an excerpt from the statement sent by the cruise operator (check out the full note below). The accident occurred during a special New Year’s trip to Angra dos Reis (RJ).

The report, a passenger claims that the fall occurred around 1 am after a couple had argued. At the same time, the ship sounded all audible alarms and the teams began searching. Two support boats went into the sea, but the passenger was not located.

The case was reported to the maritime authorities and, after two hours, the Brazilian Navy began searching for the passenger who, to date, has not been located. The cruise was then allowed to continue its journey to the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

The accident also caused the cancellation of Alexandre Pires’ show, expected in the early hours of this Saturday. The singer’s team complained about the case and offered solidarity to the victim’s family: “As a sign of respect for the victim and for the rescue work, we spoke with the organization and reached a consensus not to hold the show” , we read in part of the press release.
