Zagallo, football star and four-time world champion, died on Friday night, 01/05, in Rio de Janeiro. The former athlete had been hospitalized in a Rio de Janeiro hospital since December and had suffered multiple organ failure. The news of his death was broken by his family, who published a statement on the star’s official networks.




“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our eternal four-time world champion Mario Jorge Lobo Zagallo. A devoted father, a loving grandfather, a loving father-in-law, a faithful friend, a successful professional and a great human being. Even more, in the text the family underlined: “We thank God for the time we were able to spend with you and ask the Father to find comfort in the beautiful memories and the great example you leave us.”

Information about the star’s wake has already been released by his family, who confirmed that the ceremony will be open to the public. “The funeral wake of our beloved Zagallo will be open to the public at the CBF headquarters (Av. Luiz Carlos Prestes, 130), starting from 9.30 am. The burial will take place at 4.00 pm in the São João Batista cemetery. SUNDAY – 01/07”.
