The queen of this year’s Copacabana Palace ball, for the first time, was not a celebrity. The chosen one was Silvia Braz, a 43-year-old influencer in the luxury market. But despite 1.5 million followers on Instagram, she was not recognized by the public at the Carnival party.

As journalist Mônica Bérgamo described in an article on Folha de S. Paulo, the question “Who are you?” was in the air when Silvia was announced.

Copa’s communications manager, Cassiano Vitorino, explained to the journalist that Silvia is an opinion leader and a super guest, which justifies her choice. “Silvia lives here, it’s a fitting homage,” he concluded.

In Bergamo Silvia said she was not surprised by the invitation: “It is proof of the protagonism of the internet.”

The queen wore a tight, shiny dress with many slits. The place at the Ball is generally reserved for models and actresses such as Grazi Massafera, Marina Ruy Barbosa, Sabrina Sato, Luiza Brunet, Luana Piovani and Débora Secco.
