Lívia Silva, actress who plays Teca in the remake of Reborn, says he faced financial difficulties with his family before getting an opportunity in the profession. What made the family stand out—and got them noticed in the art world—were the coconut candies her mother sold.
“Sometimes there was no money to pay the electricity bill. We slept by candlelight. I also couldn’t afford food,” she said in an interview with the newspaper Extra.
According to her, parents had to deal with double or triple shifts to support the family. Her mother, for example, came from formal work and went to Brás, in São Paulo, to buy clothes to resell. Her father went out to beat açaí and acerola.
The problem appeared around 2017, when her father became unemployed and her mother was out of work and was placed on leave by the National Institute of Social Security (INSS). At that moment, while she was sleeping, her mother dreamed of a cooked coconut and, the next day, she decided to try making the sweet to sell.
“He had R$40 in his account. She went to the market and bought everything needed for the recipe. My sister and I took him to school. After ten minutes we went home saying that everyone liked her. We sell throughout São Paulo. This way we were able to finish building our house,” explained Lívia.
In addition to earning a living, cocada also led to Lívia being discovered as an actress. She and her sister put on a fun presentation to sell the product and that’s what got her noticed by a casting producer. “My mother was afraid of what could happen to me. But then she took me to the theater and I never left,” she said.
