“I will not return to this rotten place,” says Luisa Marilac, harassed in her hometown

The influencer says he suffered from transphobia while walking alone and criticizes the lack of support from the police

It was supposed to be a journey of reconnecting with one’s roots, but it ended with an embarrassment in a public square. On Instagram and YouTube, Luisa Marilac denounced an incident of prejudice suffered while she was traveling in the city where she was born, Além Paraíba, in the hinterland of Minas Gerais.

“I felt like I was in the ’80s, when people were throwing rocks, swearing, teasing, mocking,” he says. “The square was crowded, children were screaming, people were kissing me.”

In the video Marilac shows that she was wearing a dress with no neckline and long below the knee. “I’m not attracting attention,” she said. “I will never set foot in this rotten, unkempt, greasy city again… People poor in spirit, in character… I don’t even come to bury my relatives”.

Luisa reported that she stopped a police vehicle after being harassed. “The police said they had a case and left… They saw they were messing with me, they could have done their job.”

For fear of attacks, the YouTuber returned to the hotel. “I have always idolized Além Paraíba… I will never say that I was reborn here. This place doesn’t deserve me,” he said. “I just went for a beer. If I had gone to the disco, those animals would have lynched me.”

It is not the first time that Luisa Marilac – famous for the viral “dos bom drinks” and author of the book ‘Eu, Transvesti’ – suffers from transphobia in a public place. In July 2022, you reported discrimination at the São Paulo Book Biennial. “The most transphobic place I’ve ever been.”

Months earlier she had said she was treated with disrespect at a private hospital in the capital Sao Paulo, where she was treated like a male. Last year, Marilac went on a livestream hunger strike to protest the ban on a trans woman from using the women’s bathroom in a supermarket.
