Xuxa is sued by a former photographer for improper use of images in a documentary; understand


Francisco Aparecido Dias demands R$47,000 for using his images without authorization. In addition to the presenter, Globo and Endemol Shine Brasil, producer of ‘Xuxa, o Documentário’, are also in the works. The broadcaster has specified that it will not comment on the matter; Xuxa and the producer did not respond to contact with ‘Estadão’

Francisco Aparecido Diaswho was the official photographer of Xuxa For 15 years he has been suing the presenter, the Rede Globo and the Endemol Shine Brazil for improper use of images in Xuxa, the documentary.




Xuxa’s former photographer claims that images he took were used in the documentary series without his permission. He says that two portraits taken during the years in which he worked with the presenter were used in different episodes.

Francisco is asking for R$49,357.24 from the people involved. OR Estadao had access to the case, which is taking place at the 21st Special Civil Court of the TJ-RJ (Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro./)

The photographer said that he, Xuxa, Endemol and Globo also negotiated the licensing of images for the documentary, but that they never reached any financial agreement. He also revealed that it is not the first time that his images have been used inappropriately by the presenter.

The production is available on Globoplay and was broadcast on TV Globo in January this year. Dias said he was harmed by the presenter. “Between October and November last year, several emails and messages detailing what happened were exchanged with representatives of the defendants, but no resolution was provided. […] In the end they concluded that the best thing would be for the plaintiff to try to assert his rights in court,” say the plaintiff’s lawyers.

The conciliation hearing has been set for May 7 so that the parties involved can try to reach an agreement.

Wanted by EstadaoTHE Rede Globo said it would not comment on the matter. The presenter and Endemol Shine Brasil did not reciprocate contact. The space remains open.
