Renata Capucci on the diagnosis of Parkinson’s: “Nothing has changed in my life”

The journalist released a statement to the newspaper ‘O Globo’ in which he told the moment of diagnosis and treatment of the disease

After revealing that she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease four years ago, reporter Renata Capucci gave more details on when she discovered the disease and how the treatment is performed.

In a note released to the newspaper The globeRenata said she decided to talk about the diagnosis because, according to her, “inertia is a great enemy of this disease, indeed of any disease”.

She said the first symptoms started mild and in early 2018. The reporter felt one of her feet twitch and she started limping without realizing it.

Some time later, while participating in the music competition pop star, on TV Globo, Renata was in her room, alone, when one of her arms involuntarily lifted. “I was surprised and scared and went to tell my husband,” she said.

During a clinical exam with a neurologist, she was told she had Parkinson’s disease. According to the report, she, Renata, was surprised that she was only 45 at the time, but doctors explained that the disease was not “just a disease of the elderly”.

“It was very, very heavy to receive this news. I cried, screamed, I asked myself: why? What would happen to me? How would I evolve? Not knowing, not controlling is maddening,” he said.

With the news, the reporter decided to give up participating in the pop star, but he said “that word doesn’t exist in his dictionary.” “I moved on, reached the final and finished fourth,” she said.

He also told about the moment he spoke to Globo’s board of directors and asked to leave daily journalism. “I received another ‘gift’: the Fantastic“she said, and she also revealed that she was never considered less capable of having the disease.

Currently, the reporter says she understands that she doesn’t need to hide or feel guilty about the diagnosis. “I spoke from the heart, with emotion and I felt relieved. A catharsis,” she said.

Renata understood that there are symptoms that start earlier, such as loss of smell, and found that the disease is “cyclical”. “One day you wake up very well and the next day you don’t, we never know what you will be like the next day. That’s why you don’t share the treatment,” she explained.

He revealed that he is taking the treatment very seriously and has used cannabidiol, prescribed by his neurologist. According to the reporter, the drug helps her with insomnia, one of her symptoms.

Renata asked for the disease to stop being called “Parkinson’s disease” due to the negative charge of the word and said she is now receiving several messages from people who have identified with the symptoms and are seeking medical help.

“If I want to participate in the pop star still, I can, I can sing, dance, do physical exercises. I run on the sandy beach. I do supermarkets, I report everywhere, I travel, I go to the Amazon, FlorianĂłpolis, London, everywhere. Nothing has changed in my life, “she said.

Today he says he has “the urge to be happy” and the awareness of not being able to control anything. “I face Parkinson’s head on, with resilience and a lot of strength,” she assured her.

The reporter’s dream and hope, according to the statement, is to keep the disease under control and see the cure to be discovered. “I’ve made so many lemonades with this lemon, that soon I start making cakes and other sweets,” he joked.
