Singer Ludmilla was accused of religious intolerance after her show last Sunday, the 21st, at Coachella, in California, United States. The celebrity divided opinions when she showed a video showing the phase: “Only Jesus expels Tranca Rua from the people.”

After backlash and criticism, film owner Maldivas took a stand and said the scene had been taken out of context. Ludmilla emphasized that her goal with the images was to show the reality of a favela.

“When I told you that you would have to make an effort to say bad things about me, I didn’t think you would go that far. Today they took one of the images from the video on the big screen of the show at Rainha da Favela out of context, which features several recordings of spaces and realities that I grew up with and lived with for many years, wanting to rewrite their meaning and putting myself in a position completely opposite to my own,” she began.

And he continued: “Rainha da Favela presents my favela, a real favela, naked and raw, where I grew up, but unfortunately there are many evils: black genocide, police violence, poverty, religious intolerance and many other experiences of people who overcome obstacles, live in adversity, but do not give up. This implies living in an often hostile environment, where at every step you have to face the difficulties of the favela.”

“Favela without filters”

Ludmilla explained that her presentation left no room for any interpretation other than the one she wanted to convey to the audience. “My show begins with a very explicit message

, which leaves no doubt about anything! Next I present the reality over which this discourse must prevail! Of a favela without filters, without gluttony, without caricatural representations, denunciation of reality. I’m here for what’s real, and not this showcase version imported so foreigners think this is a space that can be reduced to funk, ass and beer!”, he declared.

“Don’t put me in that position. You know who I am and where I come from. Don’t try to limit where I go. I respect all people as they are and regardless of any faith, race, gender, sexuality or whatever particularity makes them unique,” he concluded .
