The solidarity campaign supported by influencers and companies has already collected more than R$30.8 million in donations for the victims of the floods in Rio Grande do Sul. According to the latest bulletin from the region’s Civil Protection, released on Monday 6th at 9am, 83 deaths have been confirmed – 4 under investigation – and 111 missing. In total, more than 850,000 people were affected by the tragedy.

The “Largest solidarity campaign in RS”, as it is called, is promoted by the Instituto Vakinha, Pretinho Básico and Badin Colono. “We will raise funds to help families, schools, shelters and charities who have suffered due to the heavy rains,” the institutions describe.

As of 12:50 this Monday, fundraising had reached R$30,832,064.26, reaching the goal of R$30 million. Once created, the crowdfunding hoped to raise R$5 million.

Among the approximately 40 influencers who will be spokespersons for the fundraiser are Whindersson Nunes and the former BBB Matteus. Among the companies, there are 19 that support the cause, such as Cobasi, Vetnil, Decathlon and PanVel Farmácias. The campaign can be found on the Vakinha portal using the ID 4712837.

Donations to the “Largest solidarity campaign in RS” can be made using the Pix key Floods@vakinha.com.br.

On the crowdfunding page there are also links for donations in other currencies, in addition to the real one.

Official donations

The government of Rio Grande do Sul owns the official donation account “SOS Rio Grande do Sul”, which as of Sunday the 5th has collected more than R$38 million via Pix.

With decree n° 57.601, the RS government established a management committee for the “SOS Rio Grande do Sul” account. The group is made up of public and private entities, who will define actions, measures and distribution criteria for donations collected through the channel’s Pix key.

The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), has warned the population against scams involving donations to victims of the tragedy caused by storms in the state. According to the state chief executive, people have taken advantage of the situation to ask for money without forwarding the sum to those who really need it.

Without providing details, he reiterated that the correct Pix key is CNPJ number 92.958.800/0001-38. “When you make the donation, SOS Rio Grande do Sul appears as the recipient and the institution is Banrisul (State Bank of Rio Grande do Sul). If this does not appear at the time of donation it is because it is a scam,” she warned.

In 2023, the same bank account was used to receive donations when rains caused severe damage in Rio Grande do Sul in September, in the Vale do Taquari region.
