Did you think there would be no Brazilians at the Cannes Film Festival? You thought it was wrong! The feature film “Motel Destino”, by the director from Ceará Karim Ainouzhad its world premiere this Wednesday (22nd), directly from France.

In fact, the film received a twelve-minute ovation at the end of the gala session at the iconic Grand Lumière Theatre. There we had the presence of more than 20 members of the team and cast, including the protagonists Natalia Rocha, Iago Xavier and Fabio Assunção. Excited by the audience’s reaction, the director and his entourage danced to the rhythm of the music that marks the end credits of the film, amidst applause from the audience.

“After four years of terror, I am very happy to have been able to return to film in Brazil and make a film that celebrates life, joy and peace”, the director spoke at the end of the screening.

But, ultimately, what is “Motel Destino” about? “I was very inspired by pornochanchada and cinema noir. I can summarize ‘Motel Destino’ like an erotic thriller, but it is above all a love story. The love between a young peripheral man who lives in defiance of a system that wants him dead and a woman who resists the patriarchy’s attacks on her life”, contou Ainouz.

Finally, it is worth pointing out that the film does not yet have a scheduled release date in Brazilian cinemas.
