Two years after the controversy surrounding Kat Torres began, the influencer has become the target of investigations into alleged human trafficking and slave-like working conditions. According to the BBC, the Brazilian woman was sentenced to eight years for luring the young woman Desiree Freitas to the United States.

The “false guru” had been in prison since October 2023, after disembarking from a plane full of Brazilians deported from the US. In the situation, his arrest was seen as “preventive” and took place in a women’s prison in Bangu, Rio de Janeiro.

The case began with the disappearance of Leticia Maia, a 21-year-old from Minas Gerais who has been living in the United States since 2019.

After the family’s complaint, the young woman, who had not responded to her family’s contacts since April of this year, posted a video on her social networks saying that she is fine, but that she no longer wants to have contact with her family.

Later, another family, this time that of the young Dessirê Freitas, 26, spoke out, saying that they were going through a similar situation. After all, after her disappearance, the young woman also recorded a video in which she said she no longer wanted to have contact with her family.

Later, the family members pointed out that Leticia and Dessirê had been forced by Kat Torres, with whom they worked in North America.
