A cartoon depicting Silvio Santos arriving in heaven and being welcomed by other famous people has gone viral on the Internet this Saturday afternoon, 17. The illustration, created by cartoonist Rafael Lemos, shows figures such as Hebe Camargo (1929-2012), Jô. Soares (1938-2022), Gugu Liberato (1959-2019) and Dercy Gonçalves (1907-2008), among other artists and communicators who have marked the presenter’s trajectory, waiting for him on a portal.

The image also includes celebrities who passed away long ago, such as Ronald Golias, Elke Maravilha, Roberto Bolaños, Ruth Romcy and Jorge Lafond, among others.

The 93-year-old presenter died in the early hours of Saturday. He had been hospitalized since the 1st of this month at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, in the neighborhood of Morumbi, in the south of São Paulo, for treatment of a case of H1N1, a subtype of influenza A. The information was released by SBT on social media.

“Today the sky rejoices with the arrival of our beloved Silvio Santos. He lived 93 years to bring happiness and love to all Brazilians. The family is very grateful to Brazil for more than 65 years of living together with great joy,” SBT said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The presenter’s cause of death was reportedly due to bronchopneumonia resulting from H1N1 infection, according to a medical bulletin released by the hospital.

“The Albert Einstein Israeli Hospital regretfully confirms the death of Mr. Abravanel, Silvio Santos, aged 93, which occurred today, August 17, 2024, at 4:50 a.m., due to bronchopneumonia resulting from an influenza infection (H1N1). The Albert Einstein Israeli Hospital stands in solidarity with the family and all those who are grieving the loss,” the document reads.

According to the SBT press office, there will be no wake. A Jewish ceremony will be held directly at the cemetery, at an unknown date and location.

This was a wish of Silvio Santos himself: “We want to tell you that many times, throughout his life, our father, growing up, expressed his wish regarding his departure: he asked that, as soon as he left, we pick him up directly at the cemetery and a Jewish ceremony was held”, explains the note released by the Abravanel family.
