The song chosen as the theme of the campaign Kamala Harris AND Freedomfrom Beyoncebut there is also another pop diva who moves the American electorate. A group of fans of the singer Taylor Swift has organized fundraising meetings for the Democrat and has already raised more than US$140,000 (R$774,000). Swifties for Kamala (Swifties by Kamala, in Portuguese) also features the participation of celebrities, including the artist Carol King and the senator Elizabeth Warren.

How did it go? Swifties for Kamala?

With just over a month to go until the North American elections, Kamala Harris has received the support of pop stars such as Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, Beyoncé and Olivia Rodrigo. The singer of Shake it off is not one of them. Taylor Swift has stopped publicly supporting the Democratic candidate running for president of the United States against Republican Donald Trump.

Despite the artist’s silence, her audience has tried to give their support to the North American vice president. On the official website of the initiative, the group explains that it is a coalition of Taylor Swift fans committed to protecting democracy.

Fans form group to support Democratic candidate

“We believe Kamala has the experience, integrity, intelligence, and resilience to defeat Donald Trump and lead the United States to a more prosperous and inclusive future,” the text reads. At the end of the manifesto, the warning: “Swifties for Kamala is not affiliated with, endorsed, authorized, sponsored, or in any way officially connected to Taylor Swift or any of her respective business entities or their affiliates.”

Founded by 22-year-old Emerald Medrano, the project launched just hours after Joe Biden withdrew from his re-election bid. “Like her [Kamala] She opened doors and she takes care of the people who come through those doors after her. She reminds me in a lot of ways of Taylor and the way she takes care of people in the music industry,” she said Vanity Fair.

The idea worked. THE Swifties for Kamala has more than 70,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter) and even on his website. In addition, fans have managed to raise a significant amount of money for the Democratic campaign with online meetings.

Wednesday 28th, the Swifties for Kamala announced that it has already raised more than 140 thousand US dollars (774 thousand R$ at current prices) for the campaign. The day before, fans organized a meeting via Zoom attended by just over 27,000 people. Among them were singer Carole King and Senators Elizabeth Warren and Kirsten Gillibrand.

Taylor Swift Has Not Commented on This Year's Election

“I’m a quickie and Taylor and I are friends,” King said. “I’ve been a political activist for years. I’ve volunteered, I’ve knocked on doors, even though I’m a famous person. I say this because if any of you are thinking about volunteering to knock on doors or make phone calls, and you’re a little nervous about what you might say, please believe me: there’s nothing to lose and everything to gain,” the artist argued.

Even without the support of the pop diva, the Swifties consider the mobilization important. A social media manager for the group explained to Cosmopolitan that they do not want to pressure the singer in any way to publicly declare his support for Kamala Harris.

“We’re not waiting for Taylor to show her support for Kamala Harris. We’re doing it independently of her, using the Swifties platform as a way to get people involved in the election,” Rohan Reagan said.

Still silent on the North American presidential race, owner of the hit song Empty space came to support Joe Biden in 2020, when the then-candidate was running against Donald Trump.
