Paralympic Games: Julio Cesar emotional after winning gold

Julius Caesar He is already used to beating statistics and at the Paris Paralympics it was no different. This is because the athlete won a gold medal in the 500 meters of athletics and also broke the world record.

The emotional athlete commented on the difficulties he faced due to the lack of encouragement for the sport. “When I started running I only had a small football field and my determination. With a lot of willpower I got to this point. I had no help from my city, from my town hall. I hope that now they will fix that little field and support the residents. From there, other promises could be made, I don’t want repercussions for me, but rather to make a difference for my neighborhood and for society,” said the sprinter.

Julio Cesar was diagnosed with keratoconus at the age of seven, when he was already a track and field athlete. From that moment on, the athlete moved to the Paralympic team and has stood out ever since. Now the sprinter competes in the T11 class, a category reserved for blind athletes, with the support of two guides.

In Paris, Julio led virtually the entire race and finished the course in 14 minutes, 48 ​​seconds and 85 hundredths. Thus beating the world record held by Brazilian Eltsin Jacques, who came in third.
