80-Year-Old Korean Model Could Be Next Miss Universe; Meet Choi Soon-hwa

This year the pageant changed the age limit and saw a 60-year-old Argentine compete for the crown. Until last year, only participants up to 28 years old could compete for the title.

The next one could be an 80 year old model Miss Universe. The Korean Choi Soon Hwa participates in one of the stages of the pageant, Miss Universe Korea, and has a chance to reach the pageant. Until last year, only participants up to 28 years old could compete for the title.

In an interview with EuronewsChoi explained that she decided to try out for Miss Universe when she learned there was no longer an age limit. “My son asked me, ‘Mom, are you really going to do this?’ And then he said, ‘If you really want to do it, go for it,’” she said.

The model said she has the support of her entire family. “They said, ‘Our mom is amazing and our grandma is amazing.’ That made me feel really happy,” she said. Choi wants to inspire people to “show off their talents so they feel confident.”

In May, Argentine model Alejandra Rodriguez, 60, also competed at Miss Universe Argentina, one of the stages of Miss Universe. The crown, however, stayed with Magalí Benejam Corthey, 29, who represented the city of Córdoba.
