TV Globo journalist Julieta Amaral died on Friday evening, the 25th, at the age of 62. The first black news anchor in Rio Grande do Sul, she had been fighting pancreatic cancer for at least three years.

The rather aggressive disease forced Julieta to undergo treatment in the oncology department of the Mãe de Deus Hospital in Porto Alegre (RS).

THE CNNThe journalist’s family stated that Julieta’s health had complications in recent days and, as a result, she did not survive.

Born on October 8, 1962, Julieta Amaral has had a 40-year career in journalism. She has received numerous awards and recognitions and has held positions as a reporter, presenter and coordinator.

Among the most important reports he was present at was the accident of the large ship carrying 12 thousand tons of sulfuric acid in the port of Rio Grande in 1998.

The Union of Professional Journalists of Rio Grande do Sul (SindJoRS) and the National Federation of Journalists (Fenaj) mourned the death of the communicator and classified her as “one of the major references of female journalism within Rio Grande do Sul On and, certainly, one of the pillars and main references as a black woman who has made history for about 40 years in the profession”, we read in an extract of the joint note.

Julieta overtook vehicles like the Newspaper Agoratraditionally printed in Rio Grande do Sul, and has consolidated her career as a reporter, presenter and journalism coordinator at RBS TV, TV Globo affiliate in the state.

“Julieta was a source of inspiration for girls of all ages, for men and women of color who saw in her the light thanks to which it was possible to reach previously unusual spaces. For an entire community Julieta was synonymous with seriousness and journalism professional. A symbol that, with the microphone in your hand, you can transform the world into a better place”, continued the entities representing the journalists.

Julieta Amaral leaves behind her husband and daughter. The burial will take place this Saturday, the 26th, at 3.30 pm.
