The organization of the 2024 Latin Grammys, an awards ceremony held on Thursday the 14th in Miami, in the United States, got the name of the Brazilian singer and composer Ivan Lins wrong, and was criticized by the artist’s son, Cláudio Lins, on social media this Friday 15th.

According to the actor and singer, his father’s name was written as “David Lins” in a display located at the entrance to the awards ceremony. The Latin Grammy edition was notable for Brazilian music, with a record number of nominations – 92 in total.

“Who is David Lins?”, asked Cláudio in an Instagram post. He recalled that the mistake is even more serious considering the well-known path of Ivan Lins, the first Brazilian singer to win the Album of the Year category, in 2005, with the album Singing stories.

This year the artist competed again, now in the Latin Jazz Album category, with the work My heart speaks – the person who collected the trophy was Hermeto Pascoal, for the discus For you, Ilza.

“It’s like calling Shakira Xitara or Rubén Blades Blades Runner,” he joked, calling the mistake “a disgrace.”

Ivan Lins has a career spanning over 50 years, with songs recorded with names like Quincy Jones and Barbra Streisand. Ivan Lins has experienced other confusions with his name in the past. In 1970 he was called Ivan Luís and Ivan Lima during the V International Song Festival.
