This Saturday, the 16th, the world will know Miss Universe 2024. The 73rd edition of the competition takes place in Mexico City, at the CDMX Arena. In 2023, the crown was handed to Nicaraguan Sheynnis Palacios and in this year’s season, 130 women were chosen to compete for the title. The Brazilian Luana Cavalcante he is one of the competitors.

Among the 13 jurors who make up the jury are the painter and sculptor from Pernambuco Romero Britto and the dancer and actress Lele Pons, friend of Anitta and J Balvin.

The broadcast will take place starting at 10pm (Brasilia time) on the North American broadcaster’s YouTube channel Telemundo.

New rules

In 2024 the rules have changed. Until now, candidates could not exceed 28 years of age. Today the rule only concerns the minimum age: 18 years. In other words, women over 30, 40, 50 and even older could participate in the qualifiers of their respective countries.

Another recent change has to do with personal issues. This year Miss Universe will have 13 candidates who are mothers. This is the highest number since 2022, the year married women with children began participating in the competition.



What are the Miss Universe pageants like?

For the occasion the women present themselves in three outfits (gala, swimsuit and typical) and are interviewed and evaluated by the judges.

For the first time in the entire history of the pageant, the first cut will leave 30 contestants vying for the crown as semifinalists; Previously only 20 women passed through.

A second round of evaluations will determine which 12 will advance to the next phase, which will be the last before the five finalists are announced. Here the audience’s favorite and representatives from four continents will be chosen. The other 12 places will be determined by the costume parade.

It is at this time that the candidates answer the judges’ famous questions. The final proclamation, which closes the event, takes place from fifth to first place.
