Jay-Z accused of raping 13-year-old girl with Diddy

The sexual abuse allegedly occurred during an after-party after the 2000 VMAs; the producer, married to singer Beyoncé, denies the accusations

The musician and producer Jay-Z is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl together with hip-hop singer Sean Combs, better known as P. Diddy. The abuse allegedly occurred during a party after the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) in September 2000; the act was allegedly witnessed by another celebrity who did nothing to prevent the attack. Jay-Z, named in that civil suit, denies the allegations. The case came to light on Sunday 8th.

The complaint states that another “celebrity stood by and watched as Combs and Carter took turns attacking the minor. Many other people were present at the party but did nothing to stop the attack.” Elsewhere it is said that Jay-Z was with P. Diddy “in many of the cases (already) described” and that “both attackers must face justice”.

The alleged victim is not identified in the new trial. Jay-Z spoke out against the complaint through his record label, Roc Nation, account on Xcalling the lawyer in charge of the case a “deplorable human being” and offering solidarity with victims of sexual abuse.

“My only pain is for my family. My wife and I will have to sit with our children and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I grieve for yet another loss of innocence. Children should not have to go through this such a young age,” Jay-Z said.

Carter, 55, is a billionaire music producer and businessman who started out as a rapper. He is married to the singer Beyoncé. Buzbee, the lawyer who filed the lawsuit against Jay-Z, told AFP that “the document speaks for itself. This is a very serious matter that will be discussed in court.”

Combs was arrested in New York on September 16, after months of investigation, charged with sex trafficking and conspiracy. Federal prosecutors also allege he sexually abused women and forced them to attend drug-fueled sex parties, using threats and violence.

Diddy, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges, is scheduled to begin trial on May 5, 2025. Combs has also faced a massive wave of lawsuits from lawyers, including Buzbee, who said in October that more than 100 alleged victims had planned to take legal action against him. /AFP
