In an interview with the Sala de TV program, from Earththis Wednesday, 8, Gretchen he recalled the episode that marked his career alongside the Hollywood star Jean-Claude Van Damme. The performance, broadcast live on the Domingo Legal program in 2001, remained in the public’s memory as an unusual moment, but the singer revealed that the scene was provoked by the actor’s team and did not reflect the reality behind the scenes.

“What you saw was somehow combined with his production. I didn’t know it, but his production knew it and caused that moment. So when she takes off her hat and puts it in front of him, when the commercial comes on, he sits in the chair and pretends I don’t exist,” Gretchen says.

According to the singer, Van Damme’s behavior changed completely when the cameras went off. “There was nothing like it. In a way it was produced. This took me by surprise, and since the programs were live, we didn’t have much of a chance to react. But when the commercial came out, I sat there in the chair (…) He also sat down, very far away, because there was a very large entourage, with many security guards. He sat down, finished his presentation and left. He practically didn’t talk to anyone except Gugu.

Gretchen explained that, at the time, because she was young and due to the limitations of the pre-internet age, she was unable to react to what happened or deny the narratives created about the incident. “I was very young. If it were today, he would be lost on me,” he said.

The singer also stressed that, as the years go by, she feels more and more comfortable talking about situations from the past. “There came a moment when I was like Silvio [Santos]I have no filter,” he said.
