Actor Johnny Depp has resumed his acting career, which was hovering amid the repercussions of multimillion-dollar defamation lawsuits filed against The Sun newspaper in the UK and Amber Heard in the US, with a trailer for a Chinese game. The video for the new online RPG “Sea of Dawn” sees Depp giving life to a new eccentric character.
In the preview, he plays a blind, story-filled veteran Irish sailor who lives confined to his home, filled with trinkets from his travels. His routine is interrupted by a visit from a tax collector (played by Francisco Rodriguez), who has no time to say anything, when he is greeted with enthusiasm, enigmatic phrases and accounts of great adventures around the world. The result is practically a comic short film. So much fun.
The game is a release from Chinese company Changyou, responsible for the hit “Dragon Oath” which, according to the company, has had 300 million users since its debut in 2007.
“Sea of Dawn” takes place during the era of great naval discoveries and allows players to sail the high seas on warships or as pirates.
“If there’s an opportunity for humor, I’ll take it,” Depp explained during the making of the commercial, regarding the character’s unexpected initiatives. “I want to see a character who has the audacity to do things I would never do.”
It is possible to imagine an entire movie with Depp’s new sailor, named Philip, and he may or may not have stumbled upon a certain Captain Sparrow on his many seafaring adventures.
