Queen vs. Elizabeth II’s most high-profile scandals with family members

In October 2015, Queen Elizabeth II broke the previous record for the longest stay on the British throne, and during that time she had to deal with more than just external issues. Relations within the royal family have never been easy. Let’s remember the most famous scandals of the Windsors!

Harry and Megan

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step away from the family and likely move to North America to do charity work, the Queen certainly didn’t sit well with. Besides, it was sudden! Harry and Meghan in their statement promised to support the queen in everything, but how will everything turn out in reality?

Kate Middleton

While all eyes are on the younger grandson, the relationship between the eldest’s wife and the queen is no longer close. According to sources close to the court, the problems started even before the marriage. The Queen didn’t like Kate being frivolous about money as the UK economy was in recession and the future daughter-in-law herself was working part-time. Kate didn’t like this opinion, but she decided to keep quiet – and she did the right thing.

The next time Kate had to keep her opinion to herself was during her second pregnancy. She had to withdraw from royal duties for some time due to terrible toxicosis (from which, by the way, she suffered in all three pregnancies and for a long time).

Camille Parker Bowles

The queen never had pleasant emotions towards the second wife of Prince Charles. And no wonder, because for so many years she was the mistress of the first pretender to the throne!

While he was married to Diana, the rumors didn’t stop and there was nothing the queen could do about it. She first refused to attend her son’s second wedding, then forced them to have a rather modest ceremony, didn’t allow Camilla to make any preparations for a royal wedding, then didn’t have to. all mentioned his name in his congratulations! While guests enjoyed themselves, the Queen reportedly watched horse races with Camilla’s ex-husband on TV.

Even today, Elizabeth II is not particularly happy that Parker Bowles could become queen. It is not yet known if Prince Charles will give the title to his wife. He said no, but the attitude could change.

James Middleton

Kate’s brother is happy to give interviews about the difficulty of living in the shadow of his sister’s popularity: “I work very hard, like any businessman. And sometimes I forget that I’m not only an important person’s brother, but also just James.

After those words, the Queen apparently asked Kate to reason with the family and not mention the Royal Family in the interview.

Charles Spencer

The late Princess Diana’s brother is in a rocky relationship not just with the Queen, but with her entire family. At Diana’s funeral, her sons, then aged 12 and 15, followed the coffin through the streets of London. Charles wanted to shield them from the press and claimed they were asked to do so at Buckingham Palace.

In a 2017 interview with the BBC, he said it was “ridiculous and cruel” to bring William and Harry into the procession, as the royal family did. Harry then denied his words, saying no child would be forced to do so by force. Of course, the queen was not happy with this discussion.

Middleton Family

Kate’s family are among those still not invited to royal parties. They never spent Christmas at Sandringham Palace, and Kate must navigate between the royal and her family. In 2014, she invited her relatives to Enmer Hall, which angered Elizabeth II.

Prince Charles went on to accuse Kate’s mother Carol of monopolizing her time with her grandchildren. Rumor has it that these words infuriated William so much that he asked his grandmother to intervene. The Queen has invited reporters to cover the sweetness with which she communicates with Kate’s mother… but Middleton never received a Christmas invitation. Unlike, by the way, Meghan Markle’s mother.

Ronald Ferguson

Despite the fact that Sarah Ferguson divorced Queen Andrew’s son in 1996, they still communicate warmly. What can not be said about the relationship between Elizabeth II and Sarah’s father. Previously, Ronald worked for the royal family – he was a cavalry officer. In 1990, during the baptism of Princess Eugenie, he confessed to having entered the church by the back door.

These remarks did not go unnoticed. Then it turned out that he was a fan of visiting massage parlors of a certain type. Ronald denied everything, but the queen hates scandals. Then he published an autobiography – and also did not grow in his eyes.

Princess Marguerite

Queen Elizabeth II was very close to her sister during her childhood and youth. They even had a separate emergency phone line. After the coronation, the sisters began to drift apart.

When Margaret decided to marry serviceman Peter Townsend, a divorced man twice her age, she needed her sister’s permission. Elizabeth was against it and said that if Margaret married her she would cease to be a member of the royal family. Eventually, the terms eased: Margaret would not lose her title (and her money), but she would lose her place in contention for the throne along with her children. Three days later, she refused to marry Peter, and the relationship between the sisters remained good.
