Renato Kalil denies obstetric violence against Shantal Verdelho in a police testimony

The gynecologist and obstetrician Renato Kalil denied, in a statement to the Civil Police, of having committed obstetric violence during the birth of the influencer Shantal Verdelho. According to Globe Newswho had access to the doctor’s cross-examination, admitted using “inappropriate words” but claimed to have used them only in what he called a “moment of motivational encouragement” as delivery was difficult.

In a note to Land, the Public Ministry of Sao Paulo (MP-SP) stated that it had followed the interrogation and awaited the conclusion of the police investigation. Shantal’s defense, represented by attorney Sergei Cobra Arbex, was also sought, but until the last update of this report there was no response.

The influencer, married to model Mateus Verdelho, in December denounced the doctor for obstetric violence. The case was highlighted in Fantastic, by Rede Globo. At the time, an audio leaked on social media in which Shantal accused the doctor of swearing on her during childbirth and exposing her intimacy to the baby’s father and other people in the room.

After the case came to light, former patients and some of Kalil’s former employees came forward on charges of professional misconduct, bullying and sexual harassment. One of the most successful gynecologists in São Paulo, Renato Kalil left his practice and hospitals and sought refuge in a beach house in southern Bahia.

In a statement to delegate Eduardo Luis Ferreira, the midwife stated that the influencer had adequate dilation for normal delivery and that the baby was gifted, with the “cephalic pole in a transverse position”, when crossed in the uterus. Kalil denied having indicated episiotomy, a surgical cut to the perineum, already in the process of expelling the baby, to free the vaginal canal.

“(…) although I have discussed this issue several times before giving birth with Shantal, as this procedure may possibly be necessary to avoid the occurrence of severe lacerations in the vaginal region of the woman,” said the doctor.

During delivery, Shantal refused an episiotomy and there were grade 2 lacerations, which were sutured soon after, according to the affidavit. In the leaked audio, Shantal says that the doctor called her husband, Mateus Verdelho, and said, “Look here, all ripped. I’ll have to mend her frog a lot.”

For Shantal, the doctor spoke in a way that says “Look, where are you having sex, it’s all fucked up.” “He shouldn’t have done that. He doesn’t even know if I have such intimacy with my husband,” the influencer complained.

Asked by the police if she had called her husband to show the injuries and if he remembered the words used, the doctor confirmed that he had called him and that the words he had said were just to show him where the lacerations would occur. Subsequently, the baby’s father was called again to “prove everything was okay” after suturing.

insults

Also in the leaked audio, Shantal claims that the doctor cursed her in labor and told her to push. “‘Son of a bitch, you don’t force yourself. Fagot. What a hate. Don’t move, por **’ … after reviewing everything, it was horrible,” accused the influencer.

Speaking of which, the midwife states in a statement that she has not seen the recorded videos, but that, when he refers to her as a “fag”, he was speaking to himself. “She At no time was she going to embarrass the patient,” Kalil said, according to the report Globe News.

Also according to the broadcaster, Kalil also denied having asked the anesthetist and the auxiliary doctor to perform the Kristeller maneuver – when external pressure is applied to the woman’s uterus, with the aim of reducing the expulsive period -, contraindicated by the Ministry of Health. .

investigation

According to Globe Newsthe Police asked for the appraisal of the video recorded during the birth on the Verdelho camera and an examination to verify the presence of personal injuries to the patient, caused by illicit practice in the procedure.

Kalil’s team employees and former patients were also heard in the police investigation. According to the report, the testimonies pointed to the practice of obstetric violence during consultations and deliveries performed by him.

At the end of the investigation, the Civil Police can report the case for personal injury and psychological violence, since obstetric violence it is not qualified as a crime.
