Internet users questioned the lack of lawyers in the interrogations of suspects in the murder of Odete Roitman
What caught the public’s attention on social media was the fact that the suspects were not accompanied by lawyers.
The OAB (Brazilian Bar Association) commented on the issue on X (formerly Twitter).
“Everyone will testify without a lawyer Everything is fine? In real life, this would not apply! Advocacy is essential to guarantee rights,” reads the institution’s publication.
The Brazilian Bar Association also stated that the presence of a lawyer is everyone’s right. “No one should be heard during an investigation, interrogation or hearing without legal assistance. This is what ensures a fair and balanced trial.”
