This August marks one year since national rap passed an important milestone. Directly from Jardim Peri, in the North Zone of Sao Paulo, the twins Tasha and Tracie released the EP Board of Directors. With lyrics on self-esteem, financial independence and sex, the artists brought a feminine perspective to the hip hop scene.

The success continues after a year, ensuring the presence of the twins at the second edition of Echo festivalheld this Monday, 22, from Amazon Music. In addition to the MCs, the event, which aims to highlight emerging artists in music, saw the participation of concerts by Gilson, Bullet of wishes, Clarissa And jotta.

In an interview with Estadiorappers recall that they did not expect such repercussions around the release, but recognize the importance of the work for the national rap scene.

“This EP was released without too many pretensions, we did it without great expectations or strings. In fact, it was something to fill a ‘void’ we would have at work. It was great to see other people from the scene, older, recognizing the importance of our sound which has this more Brazilian imprint “, explains Tasha.

However, the main highlight continues to be the rhyme of the paulistanas: “My greatest gift is to remain strong while they think that I am weak (…) At the stone they threw, they did not even see me and I passed. They have undervalued and I have become a threat “,” (..) This boy is enthusiastic. Dos desire is hostage and slave “.

Always claiming autonomy, with touches of acidity and irony on relationships with men, the artists believe that it is precisely this originality that has opened the doors to them inside and outside the musical genre.

“In Board of Directors, we wanted to talk about fun. In our rhymes, we want to humanize black girls from the suburbs. It’s time to say, “I also like to enjoy life and I feel good about how I look.” The importance of humanizing black girls is that we help their self-esteem, ”says Tracie.

And it is precisely through the representation that the twins will bring the EP to the stage Koala festival. On September 16, the two will share the San Paolo stage with names such as Gilberto Gil, Djavan and Liniker.

“We focused on the people of the favela and the rolês de Queda. So, our mix that guaranteed our originality. And it’s a big responsibility to represent rap in festivals like this. We have to be ten times more professional. women are striving to be recognized regardless of gender and we have a responsibility to enforce respect in this scenario, ”concludes Tasha.
