A new coup, involving the image of South Korean actor Park Bo-gum (from the series “Passarela de Sonhos”), is successfully applied against several Brazilian women. The situation attracted the attention of the country’s Consulate, which issued a warning statement against embezzlers.
Published on the Consulate’s official website, the note tells the story of a victim from Ribeirão Preto, identified only as Ângela. “It is believed that the perpetrator of the crime is a Brazilian who, acting in bad faith, would have impersonated the artist. Unfortunately, the victim fell in the coup, suffering financial losses and becoming indebted”, reads the notice.
“The Consulate expresses its esteem to all lovers of Korean culture, and warns them to take precautions, avoiding being victims of scams”, completes the text.
The victim cited by the Consulate is a retired woman who says she is broke and desperate after transferring more than R $ 40,000 to the alleged plaintiff’s bank accounts.
It all started in January of this year, when he accepted a friend request from who he believed to be Park Bo-gun on social media and, from there, he exchanged several messages with the alleged artist, who leads the list of most powerful celebrities in Korea for Forbes.
But the Park Bo-gum he was texting with was actually a con man posing as an actor. He said he wanted to come to Brazil to meet her, but for that he would have to pay a contractual fine to the company that ran it. So, he asked the Brazilian fan for the amount.
With the promise of receiving the money back, the woman says she even made a loan to pay the requested amount. According to her consulate, she lost between R $ 40,000 and R $ 45,000, planning to help the actor, whom she even threatened when she suspected her demands of her.
After the alert, six other women contacted the Consulate, claiming to be victims of the same scam as the fake actor.
To avoid new victims, the South Korean Consulate has listed some precautions that people should take in the face of scams involving South Korean culture:
– Be wary of social media profiles that come into contact pretending to be celebrities;
– Korean artists and agencies never ask for money;
– In case of suspected coup, file a complaint or contact the embassy and / or consulate.
