Sony took everyone by surprise with a new film that continues classic films, but does not take into account the story of Cobra Kai
Of the most absolute nothingness, the Sony announced Karate boy 5a new chapter in the classic martial arts film franchise that marked the 1980s and 1990s. I mean, out of nowhere, as the announcement follows the success of Snake Kaithe popular series of Netflix which continues the events of the film decades after the original plot.

That’s why the announcement of the new feature took many people by surprise. After all, until then, the series was the sequel to that story and it was this nostalgic nod that constituted the great charm of the return of Daniel-San (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). Because the studio is now saying no and that the real sequel is on its way.
But, so far, there is no more concrete information on the plans for Karate boy 5. At best, Sony has said it’s a return to the original franchise and that the new storyline won’t be related to the 2010 reboot, starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.

Additionally, the studio pointed out that the film will take place in the same universe as the first Karate Kid – which only served to leave everyone in doubt. In the end, Snake Kai doesn’t it do just that anymore?
How films and series relate
Despite the proposal of Karate boy 5 be the same as Snake Kai, the two productions shouldn’t have any kind of connection with each other, strange as it may seem. Shortly after Sony’s announcement, showrunner Jon Hurwitz took to social media to explain that he has nothing to do with the project and that he knows as much as anyone else about this strange sequel.
This means that the film should not take into account the events of the series and continue the events of the franchise in other ways. The problem is that no one has the faintest idea what it really means, since the essence of the franchise has always been its protagonists.
The kids and I would like to make movies about Karate Kid and Cobra Kai and hopefully someday. But this isn’t from us or focused on the cast of Cobra Kai. I don’t know much, but I wish him well. #Karate Kid #CobraKai https://t.co/pd2aYYAF0A

So with Daniel and Johnny already present Snake Kainot much left with what Karate boy 5 can work to continue classic movies. It is worth mentioning that actor Pat Morita, who plays the legendary Miyagi, died in 2005.
Of course, anything is possible for Hollywood. Nothing prevents the studio from ignoring the existence of Snake Kai and bring back the classic characters and say it’s the story that matters. It would be a risky bet with a high probability of rejection, but not impossible.
Another possibility would be to choose a new actor to play Miyagi or even a son of the old master to train a new little grasshopper, more or less along the lines of what the 2010 reboot tried to do, albeit without much success. Furthermore, this case would also risk ignoring the show, as it also establishes that Miyagi is already dead when the plot unfolds.

One possible way would be to bet on Hilary Swank. The Oscar-winning actress began her career in the unknown Karate Kid 4: The new adventure1994 film that tried to restart the franchise but failed to repeat the same success as the originals.
This would also help explain why she hasn’t appeared yet Snake Kai when virtually everyone who has been in the movies has already been included in the series. In a recent interview, Swank was asked about the possibility of appearing in the next few seasons and she simply ignored it. It might be nothing, but it might be that she couldn’t say anything about it because he was in talks for the infamous Karate boy 5.
At the same time, the fact that Sony is quite vague in its announcement, without introducing any cast names and just saying that the story will take place in the same universe, could mean that the idea is to throw in new characters and just refer to the story. ‘one or another event of the classics. In this way, he would have the freedom to tell an unprecedented story and without going further Snake Kai been so good.
When Karate Kid 5 debuts
The only concrete information presented by Sony so far is that Karate boy 5 It already has a release date in theaters. The release of the feature film is scheduled for June 7, 2024, which is far enough away that the news and production details will only be presented in the future.
