Actor Brad Pitt (“Bullet Train”) made his sculptor debut with his early work exhibited at the Sara Hildén Museum of Art in Finland. The actor’s sculptures were unveiled last Saturday (17/9) as part of a larger exhibition by British artist Thomas Houseago, who mentors Pitt and singer Nick Cave in the art world.
In addition to Pitt’s bronze and plaster sculptures, the exhibit also contains a series of pottery by Australian musician Nick Cave. “For Nick and I, this is a new world and our first voice,” the actor told Finnish broadcaster Yle. According to Pitt himself, his sculptures are a “radical inventory of himself”.
“For me, it’s about self-reflection. It’s about where I went wrong in my relationships, where I went wrong, where I’m an accomplice,” said Pitt. “For me, he was born out of ownership of what I call a radical inventory of himself, being brutally honest with myself and taking into account those I may have hurt and the times I have been wrong.”
Among Pitt’s nine works on display is one titled “Aiming At You I Saw Me But It Was Too Late This Time” (indicating I saw myself, but this time it was too late), a plaster panel “depicting a shootout “between eight figures trying to break through the structure. There is also a miniature house made of tree bark and secured with duct tape.
The actor reportedly began working in pottery after his divorce from Angelina Jolie, spending up to 15 hours a day in the Houseago Los Angeles studio in 2017. Reports indicate that he invited Leonardo DiCaprio to his studio during the production of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (2019), for the two to “unite in a common love for ceramics”.
Pitt also told GQ magazine in August that he viewed his ceramic work not as an art, but as a “kind of solo sport, very quiet and very tactile.”
He joins the growing roster of actors who also devote themselves to fine arts, such as Pierce Brosnan (“The Son”), Sylvester Stallone (“Samaritan”), Jim Carrey (“Sonic: The Movie”) and Johnny Depp (“Animals” ). Fantastics: The Crimes of Grindelwald “), which earned more than $ 3.6 million in hours after releasing 780 prints at London’s Castle Fine Art gallery, which sold out almost immediately.
In theaters, Brad Pitt will soon be seen in the film “Babylon”, the new work of director Damien Chazelle (“La La Land: Singing Seasons”), which will debut in the United States on a limited circuit on Christmas Day, in search of a place at the Oscars.
