Moisés was shot on September 25 in Barra da Tijuca, Rio. He was accompanied by his wife and daughter, Ana Patricia, 9, when he was caught in a pharmacy parking lot and killed. “He got out of the car, went to the pharmacy. I stayed in the car with my daughter, the secretary and another person. After a while I heard a noise, a single noise. I opened the car door and ran . slowly. Immediately, my heart stopped. On her way to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) the following day to identify the body of the former president of the samba school, Shayene was kidnapped by a fishing boat. “They took my driver’s license, my cell phone, the ring, my credit card. It hurts me a lot because she took the ring from me,” she said, very excited.
It was shortly after that Portela’s muse received threats via the couple’s daughter’s phone. The thief sent a message, which was shown by the report. “I will kill mother and daughter. If I had known you were in the car, I would have killed you both,” reads the text.
The case is registered at the police station but, so far, the police have not been able to identify the perpetrator of the threats.

The crime took place in the parking lot of a pharmacy on Avenida das Américas, in Barra da Tijuca, west of Rio de Janeiro. The shooting occurred when Moses got out of the car; Shayene and the baby were inside the vehicle.
The couple were on their way to the Portela Samba School Courthouse when he was killed. The association was performing the samba-enredo qualifications for Carnival 2023 when the crime took place.
Moisés was director of Vila Isabel in 2006 and, later, his son, Wilsinho Alves, took over the presidency of the association. In 2010 he was arrested in a Federal Police investigation into the slot machine mafia and bookmakers. Moses was released in 2011.
