The executive created the station’s “quality standard” and runs a television affiliate with his son Boninho, of “BBB”

After undergoing heart surgery, José Bonifácio de Oliveira Sobrinho, the famous 86-year-old Boni, is recovering well.

He suffered a heart attack aboard a plane on the New York-Rio route on Wednesday (5).

When the TV executive received first aid from the crew, the captain diverted the plane and made an emergency landing in Orlando, Florida.

Coincidentally, one of Boni’s sons, also a director Diogo Boni, who works for Globo Internacional, lives in Windermere, a village near that city. He is married to actress Fernanda Pontes.

According to TV Vanguarda, a Globo affiliate in Vale do Paraíba, in the interior of São Paulo, Boni is expected to be discharged this Tuesday (11). The channel belongs to the entrepreneur and his 4 children.

The eldest is José Bonifácio Brasil de Oliveira, aka Boninho, 60, director of several hits of the main Marinho family television station, such as ‘Big Brother Brasil’, ‘The Voice Brasil’ and ‘Domingão com Huck’.

Boni, the father, was one of Globo’s most important executives. He entered the canal in 1967, 2 years after it opened. Together with another communication specialist, Walter Clark (1936-1997), he carried out the project to transform the carioca channel into the largest television network in Brazil.

Visionary and demanding, daring and attentive to detail, the executive has created the “Globo quality standard” in all programming: from soap operas to programs, from newscasts to the look of the artists of the house.

He had the complete confidence of the station’s founder, Roberto Marinho (1904-2003). He became vice president. He left the role in 1997. For the next four years he worked as a consultant for the main television audience.

When not working at Vanguarda, Boni enjoys life. He likes to travel and know good restaurants around the world (he is considered a great connoisseur of gastronomy and wines).

He has at his side his second wife, Lou de Oliveira, with whom he has been married for 40 years. The couple is successful wherever they go for their joy and their unifying spirit.

A reference point in the audiovisual field, Boni is often interviewed by the press. He was, for example, in the arena of ‘Roda Viva’, on TV Cultura, and on ‘Conversa com Bial’, on Globo.

In the chat with Pedro Bial, the executive said he doesn’t see streaming platforms as enemies of the old TV.

“We will have the coexistence of two televisions: the subscriber’s television, which is supported by the subscriber himself, and the advertiser’s television, which will continue to exist.”

For expert Boni, the country’s most popular communication vehicle won’t die anytime soon. “We can think of another 70 years for our television”.
