In a nine-minute video, singer and actor Seu Jorge manifests himself in front of the act of “Gratuitous hatred and racist rudeness” suffered when he performed in a private club in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. The state anti-intolerance police are investigating the case.
The manifesto, as per the title “To the people of Rio Grande do Sul “, was published on Seu Jorge’s YouTube channel, as well as on his social networks. The artist appears seated next to the state flag and, before talking about the case of racism, recalls the good memories he has with the region and reaffirms his respect for the people of RS.
He was hired to perform at the club Grêmio Náutico União, in a closed ‘gala’ event, for the reopening of the Salão União. One of the first points that the artist emphasizes is that, arriving in space, I didn’t see people of color in the audiencebut only among the employees of the event.
“When the end of the show came, I left the stage. When I got behind the stage, I started hearing many whistles and curses. This is why I realized that it would not be possible to go back to making the famous ‘encore’. But, alone, I returned to the stage and respectfully thanked everyone for their presence and left the concert venue. In fact, what I mean here is that I did not recognize the city that I have learned to love and respect. In fact, what I witnessed was a lot of gratuitous hatred and a lot of racist rudeness.“, details Seu Jorge.
In the video, the singer also thanks for the messages of support and rejection against the racist act he received from fans and friends in Rio Grande do Sul. “I also want to say that it is very nice to know that, at least, our connection has not been interrupted and will not be interrupted,” he points out.
Concluding his demonstration, Seu Jorge reaffirms his commitment to the fight against racism. “To the black people of Rio Grande do Sul and the entire southern region, I want to say that I love and respect you all. we are more united than ever and that we will win this war which leads our people to misery and lack of opportunities in Brazil “.

The case is being investigated by Police to fight intolerance, Department of the Civil Police of Rio Grande do Sul. A police investigation into the crime of racism was initiated by the delegate Andréa Mattos, head of the police station.
In a note, Grêmio Náutico União, through the President Paulo Jose Kolberg Bing, said the club is investigating the facts internally. “If the practice of a racist act is proven, the people involved will be held accountable. The club also points out that Seu Jorge was chosen to perform at the event for his “representation in national culture and international recognition”.
