English actress Kate Winslet (Mare of Easttown) surprised the mother of a 12-year-old girl with cerebral palsy by donating the entirety of the sum to a campaign to pay the electricity bill at her home and thus prevent the girl’s death which depends on the respiratory system.

Every year the family spends 17,000 euros (R$93,000 at today’s exchange rate) on the cost of energy in the house due to the equipment.

With no money to cover costs, Carolynne Hunter campaigned on social media, asking for donations. Kate Winslet heard about the story from a BBC Scotland article and donated the full amount of the costs. According to the BBC, the star also reached out to her mother to wish her family good luck.

“Our journey as a family has been very traumatic and I feel accomplished at this point in my life. When I learned about the money I started crying – I thought it wasn’t even real. I still wonder, is it true?” Hunter told BBC Scotland. .

Thanks to the war between Russia and Ukraine, energy costs have skyrocketed in the UK – and Europe – making this kind of situation increasingly common.

“I’ll be helped, but what about everyone else? I wanted the government to pay for it and do the right thing – it shouldn’t be a celebrity stepping in,” reflected Hunter.
