Gabriela, Diogo and Rodrigo comment on the process of creating the album, the new phase of their career and reveal that they also tried to collaborate with Shawn Mendes
“Nostalgia, lightness and joy”. This is how the brothers Gabriella🇧🇷 Diogo And Rodrigothat make up the band melimdescribe the album Courtyardthe new release of the group.
The album arrived on digital platforms this Wednesday 16, with 17 new songs and collaborations with big names in national music: Hemicidal🇧🇷 Victor Kley🇧🇷 Natirut And hard to beat🇧🇷
With the project, the trio have achieved something they had always wanted: the creation of a visual album🇧🇷 In about a month and with the collaboration of three directors, they recorded the video clips of all the songs on the album.
The first of them, the track Courtyard, which titles the album, was released on YouTube at the same time as the disco release. Five more will be released this Thursday 17, while the others will debut in the coming weeks.
“I confess that, in the middle of the trial, I doubted it would work,” reveals Diogo Melim. “We had meetings with some directors who accepted the project, stayed for two weeks and abandoned it because they said they weren’t going to make it.”
“I think we’re at a stage in our career where we can invest a little more,” completes Gabriela. According to the group, the budget for the project was large by national standards.
While the recordings took place in a short space of time, the creation of the concept, the script and the refinement of the songs took much longer.
Rodrigo says so Courtyard it was slated for release in early 2022, but wasn’t finalized until much later. The album’s title track, for example, was re-recorded after it was finished, as the group didn’t think it was as good as it could have been.
For Gabriela, perfectionism is a hallmark of the trio: “We don’t abandon any song. There is not one that we say ‘this is already beautiful’. We look very carefully at each song as if it were the only one”
Collaborations
Quintal has four tracks recorded in collaboration with other Brazilian artists: Mapwith Victor Kley, best medicinewith Emicide, Happinesswith Natiruts, and Wingswith Duda Beat.
Rodrigo explains that the collaborations came naturally: “We had pre-selected songs and, based on each song, we had some invitation options.”
In the process, they reveal that they have even been trying to get a partnership with the Canadian Shawn Mendes🇧🇷 “We did another version of the song Butterfly and we sent him, but he was recording the album, there are also these things, and then he said that for now he can’t do it,” says Diogo.
“But we have no limits to our dream. After recording with Djavan, Ivete [Sangalo]Natiruts, Lulu [Santos], we always say ‘we have to at least try’. On the last album, we almost collaborated with a gringo, it just didn’t happen because of the pandemic,” she completes.
The international partnership hasn’t happened yet, but Gabriela, Diogo and Rodrigo have revealed to the journalist that the album Courtyard will also get a bonus track with the participation of vitae🇧🇷 The song is expected to hit platforms in January.
Deadline
Despite being consolidated in the music market today, melim it started with three brothers who realized that they are related not only as a family, but also as artists.
After participating in the reality show Super starfrom Globe TVin 2016, signed with Universal Music Brazil and had great hits in Brazilian radio stations, such as My shelter🇧🇷 I heard And Two hearts🇧🇷
A few years later and releasing their third album of originals, they think that maturity is not just a reflection of the evolution of the songs, but rather an internal process of self-knowledge and consolidation as artists.
“For any artist, it’s a natural quest to align more and more with what one wants to say,” says Rodrigo. “We are also maturing as people, not just as musicians, and this is also reflected in the lyrics.”
For Gabriela, this process of growing up came with insecurities that ranged from the way she carried herself on stage to the experiences that came with national recognition.
“At the beginning of my career I was a dreamy girl, whose eyes sparkled from everything. I was also a bit naive in some respects, I went through some things that made me insecure and then I had time to recover so much joy, that girl light, as far as the safety of doing what I do today,” she reveals.
They stress, however, that they hope people will always see the releases as more mature than the previous ones: “So let’s make sure we’re on the right track, in trying to bring something better than what we’ve already brought”.
