Actress Anya Taylor-Joy, who won an Emmy for starring in the series ‘The Queen’s Gambit’, has revealed that she had to drop out of school at the age of 16 because she was bullied because of her looks and her accent.

He detailed his teenage woes in an interview with actress Drew Barrymore on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show.’

Anya said she grew up in Argentina until she was six but then moved with her parents to London, where her classmates started following her around.

“Argentina was all green, I had horses and animals around me. Suddenly I was in a big city and I didn’t speak the language. I felt out of place. I was too British to be Argentinean and too Argentinian to be English,” she said. .

“The children didn’t understand me at all. They used to lock me in closets,” he denounced.

Tired of being bullied, she decided to drop out of school. Shortly before she had received an offer to work as a model and she had decided to pursue that career. Two years later comes the invitation to star in “A Bruxa” (2015). And she exploded onto the screens.

She says she was lucky to have her parents’ support in every decision and praises her mother for being responsible for boosting her self-esteem.

“I was very, very lucky with my parents, because when I felt attacked about my looks, my mother always told me to always look inside people. You look inside someone, not how they are, you ignore everything else. You don’t it doesn’t matter what a person does for a living, it’s just about someone’s heart,” he recalled.

“I have to thank my mom because she really helped me a lot,” she added.
