The doctor was battling leukemia and had a bone marrow transplant in July
the endocrinologist Marcello Bronsteinhusband of the TV presenter Silvia Popovic, died this Friday, aged 25, at the age of 78. The information was confirmed by the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (SBEM) of which Bronstein was a member.
According to the note, a few weeks ago, the doctor’s general health was deteriorating. He had been suffering from leukemia since last year and, in July of this year, he underwent bone marrow transplant surgery.
At the time of the transplant, his wife Silvia wrote on a social network. “Today is a special day for our family. A gesture of love and generosity that can and will save the father’s life. We are very hopeful and excited. Since the clinical treatment hasn’t been resolved, today he finally receives the precious and healthy stem cells donated by our daughter Ana, for bone marrow transplantation”.
The donor was Ana, 22, from her marriage to Silvia Poppovic. At the time, Marcello was hospitalized for almost two months at the Albert Einstein.
In addition to offering condolences to the family, the well-known SBEM praised Bronstein’s qualities. “Marcello has been a key figure in the professional career of thousands of endocrinologists, supporting and encouraging all those around him, internationally recognized and rewarded. Receive to Silvia, Ana and other family members the affection, comfort, hug and recognition of the Council of SBEM, of the Editorial Board of the Archives of Endocrinology and Metabolism and of the entire Brazilian Endocrinology, throughout the legacy left.
Bronstein and Silvia started dating in 1990, moved in together in 1994 and married in 2007. Their only child, Ana, was born in 2000.
