‘Ghostbusters’ child actress reveals she had surgery for scoliosis

Veteran child actress McKenna Grace (“Ghostbusters: Beyond”), who already has 28 films and several series under her belt despite being just 16, revealed that she recently underwent surgery to treat her scoliosis. She opened up about her condition in a song called “Self Dysmorphia,” which the actress posted on her YouTube channel.

The disease is characterized by a shortening of the spine caused by a lateral curvature. In the music video, he shows photos of an x-ray showing a crooked spine.

Earlier this month Grace posted a video of her appearing in the hospital, but hasn’t given any further details at the moment, other than saying she underwent spinal surgery.

“I like to keep my personal life a little more personal so I can have a childhood and discover myself as a teenager,” the actress told The Hollywood Reporter. “So it’s a little strange to put these deeply personal thoughts and struggles out into the world. But hopefully by telling of my struggles with my surgery and my spine and with my music, I hope that maybe people who are going through the same thing they will feel less alone..”

Grace also revealed that she discovered the disease when she was just 12 years old. “My dad is a surgeon. I’m a very loving person, so I hug my parents a lot, and every time I hugged him, he would feel my back and my spine, and he would tell me my back was weird. So my dad he did an exam and he said, ‘Oh yeah, there it is.’ And it just got progressively worse,” she said.

“I had a back brace on,” she continued. “When I was shooting ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ (2021) I had one, but I never used it. And then I had surgery and it was a very bumpy struggle, not fun to go through, especially going to previews and red carpet. and also during filming”.

The actress explained that in the past four years, before having the surgery, “my hip was bothering me from time to time and that had to do with my back, but luckily scoliosis doesn’t involve much pain at all.” unless it’s very serious.”

“If you hit a 45-degree turn, that’s where you’re going to have surgery, or else, for the rest of your life, you’re going to flip another degree until, 20 years later, you’re, I don’t know, in the house of the 30 and suddenly you have a 60 degree turn and it starts hitting your lungs and stuff, and that would be really bad,” he explained. “I had a 47 degree turn. But now I’m at six degrees, which is crazy!”

McKenna Grace said the surgery took place five weeks ago and she has been on the mend since. “I’m starting to get back to my normal activities,” the actress said. “I want to get in shape now that I’ve fixed my spine because I didn’t realize how much my spine was holding me back.”

“I’d work out six days a week and see no progress. I’d do everything I could for months and think, ‘Why am I not seeing results?'” she said. “I think it’s a lot of my state of mind, but also after spine surgery, but I feel like I look the best I’ve ever had body-wise, even though I haven’t worked out in months. I I think it was just how much my spine was bothering me. I feel like a new person.”

And now that healing is underway, Grace is ready to get back to work. “I’m actually starting work on a movie next week—I have a costume fitting tomorrow!” she said. “I still can’t fully bend over or fully bend my spine, so I’m still healing. But I’m training again and starting to recover, so this has been my break,” said the young woman, who really fits to one film after another since he was seven years old.
