After the poll with followers, Elon Musk announces that he will step down as CEO of Twitter

The billionaire Elon Musk, owner of Twitter, announced on Tuesday evening (20/12) that he will step down as CEO of the social network as soon as he finds someone to replace him.

“I will step down as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that I will only manage the software and server teams,” Musk wrote on Twitter.

The announcement was made after Musk released a poll asking followers if he should step down as head of Twitter. More than 17 million votes were calculated and 57.5% answered “yes” to the question.

Last month, Musk told a Delaware court he would cut back on his time on Twitter and eventually find a new leader to run the social media company.

The poll came after Musk suspended profiles of journalists criticizing him and banned the promotion of other social media companies and content that contains links to competitors on Twitter. The two decisions have sparked many complaints and, finally, Twitter still runs the risk of receiving sanctions in Europe for attacking press freedom.

The vice president of the European Commission, Vera Jourova, classified the tycoon’s decisions as “worrying”, and recalled in a tweet that there are “red lines” that cannot be crossed. He went further: he threatened Musk “with sanctions, soon”.

The sanctions in the European Union could generate enormous damage for Musk and extend to other companies of the tycoon, who is negotiating trade agreements with various countries for his Space X space program.
